The Psychology of Abandonment - Why do you abandon books?

In lieu of today’s book review, which still sits unfinished on my computer, here is a fun infographic from Goodreads. I think the top reason I’ve abandoned books is certainly boredom, although an unlikable main character doesn’t help!

  1. What a fascinating post! I hardly ever abandon books, being the compulsive personality that I am, yet I abandoned almost all in your first photograph (except Casual Vacancy which I never began). I think the reasons listed are so spot on.

It used to be that magical realism was the single point of failure for me with a book. Then, I fell in love with Japanese literature and all that changed. Phew!

    • I’m so glad you changed your mind about magical realism! I remember having to read Gabriel Garcia Marquez in school. At first I wasn’t sure how I felt about it, but afterwards I decided I really enjoyed it.
